Measured Light

Affection,
like tinder,
kindles quickly.

Left free,
sparks ignite.

But the danger of burns
past and present
remind one to recoil.

Escape the flames-
let warmth
graze the skin.

Keep a margin of shadow,
In that space-
embers linger.
